For Chinese / French / German / Japanese / Spanish
- Level 101 (3 credit hours) is for students with little to no experience in the language. Level 101 fulfills 3 credit hours of Pre-College Curriculum requirements and General Education Element 6. Not open to native speakers.
- Level 102 (3 credit hours) is for students who have taken 2-3 years of High School language classes with good grades, or equivalent experience. Level 102 fulfills 3 credit hours of Pre-College Curriculum requirements and General Education Element 6. Not open to native speakers. If you are recommended to begin your university studies at the 102 level due to previous study or experience, and receive an “A” for 102, you will receive an additional three (3) credit hours for 101 automatically.
- Level 201 (3 credit hours) is for students who have taken 3-4 years of High School language classes with good grades, or equivalent experience. Level 201 fulfills 3 credit hours of Pre-College Curriculum requirements and General Education Element 6. Native and heritage speakers should contact the Department Chair for placement options. If you are recommended to begin your university studies at the 201 level due to previous study or experience, and receive an “A” or a “B” for 201, you will receive an additional six (6) credit hours for 101 & 102 automatically.
- Level 202 (3 credit hours) is for students who have taken 4+ years of High School language classes with good grades, or equivalent experience. Level 202 fulfills 3 credit hours of Pre-College Curriculum requirements and General Education Element 6. Native and heritage speakers should contact the Department Chair for placement options. If you are recommended to begin your university studies at the 202 level due to previous study or experience, and receive an “A” or a “B” for 202, you will receive an additional nine (9) credit hours for 101, 102, & 201 automatically.
