Dr. Dr. James Maples named Kentucky Master Naturalist

Dr. Dr. James Maples

Dr. James Maples (EKU Sociology) recently completed the University of Kentucky’s Master Naturalist Program. The Kentucky Master Naturalist Program is a comprehensive training experience combining knowledge, advocacy, research, and volunteering to support conservation of the Commonwealth’s natural and environmental resources

Dr. Maples joined EKU’s sociology faculty in 2014 and serves as the Director of EKU’s Division of Regional Economic Assessment and Modeling. His work focuses on the economic impact of outdoor recreation in rural transitional economies, including his recent studies on the economic impact of rock climbing in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge. His book on the history of this fascinating climbing community is now available at West Virginia University Press.
