Dr. Martha Smith Conaway, retired EKU language professor, passes.

A burning candle stands along against a black background in memorium

On behalf of President Michael Benson

Dear University Community:

Dr. Martha Smith Conaway, retired EKU professor who taught English, German, Japanese and French languages at EKU, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 16. She was 90.

Ms. Conaway, who joined the EKU faculty in 1976 and later taught at our Corbin campus, served a term as president of the Kentucky affiliate of the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. She is remembered as a well-rounded individual who also played the piano and dulcimer.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Richmond. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church, 2323 Lexington Road in Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fountain Circle Care and Rehab, 200 Glenway Road, Winchester, Ky., 40391, or to the Episcopal Church of Our Savior. Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Please join me in expressing our sympathies to the Conaway family in this time of sorrow.

Michael Benson, President

Eastern Kentucky University
