Spanish Grad Chandlar Taul Checks in on where Spanish has taken her so far

Chandlar Taul

Hola! I am here because I want to share a little bit of my Spanish journey with all of you. I received my Spanish degree in 2018 and it prepared me for a future I didn’t exactly expect. I have always had a passion for Spanish ever since I was young and I always knew I was going to follow Spanish wherever it took me.

When I made it to college, I was introduced to a whole department dedicated to the great language. I learned from the most amazing teachers who are from different parts of the world and they all brought something new to share with us students. I never knew how far I could go with studying a language in college but it already has done so much for me.

I am a Spanish teacher at St. John Catholic School. I didn’t so much strive to be a teacher but one day, out of the blue, I met the Father of a Catholic Church. We talked for a while and I mentioned I studied Spanish and very quickly offered me a job at his school. I was very hesitant about taking the job but I have been teaching now for 6 months and it is one of the hardest jobs I have ever done but it is truly rewarding and actually a lot of fun. It is amazing to see how these young children can grasp the language so quickly. The reason it can be so difficult is because not only do I have to teach a new language but also, the importance of learning a new language and understanding the vast amount of different cultures in our world.

The one thing that prepared me the most for this unexpected journey was the Spanish program at EKU. They taught me how to be resourceful, efficient, focused, patient and all around, the best teacher that I can be! I am honored to have received my Spanish degree from EKU, it took me further than I ever imagined and the journey is not over. It is just the beginning!
